🦬 You would have loved this morning . . .

Hi friend!

Sunday was a perfect morning on the high plains, right on the edge of the Flint Hills.

A short 40-minute drive north took us to the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, where the bison were on the move--crossing the road directly in front of us!  The calves were especially lively, leaping and dashing about, then returning to their mamas for what looked like the sweetest little"cheek snuggles" as they rubbed against her head. So cute!

We also encountered a giant bull bison in a separate area.  He crossed the road right in front of us, climbed partway up a hill, and then stopped--turning to watch us watchiing him.  Such an incredibly powerful presence!

You've already seen the new October Shop Hop T-shirts featuring that lovely floral bison.  And now, on June 1 (next Monday!), we'll reveal our exclusive fabrics--all centered around the theme

Spirit of the Plains.

Order your shirts now, and watch for the link to pre-order fabric online starting June 1

And be sure to mark your calendar to join the fun of the Central Kansas Quilt Shop Hop, Spirit of the Plains, October 1 - 10!

I recently decided to add a scalloped edge to a Christmas quilt that was ready for binding.  I thought I might use my Quick Curve Ruler.

It seemed like a good idea--but it didn't quite work as planned. The ruler is designed for a rotary cutter, and the slot is just too narrow for marking with a pencil or pen.  I get it!

But I didn't want to cut without marking, so after several "experiements", I went back to my tried-and-true method for scalloped edges.

I used old-fashioned adding machine paper along with Eleanor Burns' Quilt In A Day Scallops, Vines & Waves Template.  It really is the best tool for the job!

Most people who ask about this type of decorative edge are concerned about stitching the binding into all those "innies" and around the curves.

It's actually quite simple--no clipping required!  Just make your binding on the bias (some people use cross-grain, but I think bias is even easier), then stitch to the edge, gently straightening the "innies" as you go and sewing straight across them.

Watch my VIDEO showing exactly how I did this--you can watch it on YouTube.
