SHADED 4-PATCH, CAT'S CRADLE, MARY'S TRIANGLE

BASIC TECHNIQUE makes 2 BLOCKS

Stitch two (2”) squares to two (2” x 3”) rectangles. (Rectangles are always cut the same width as the square and 1" longer than width.)

Press seams towards rectangles.

Cut a rectangle the same size (3.5" x 4.5") as this newly pieced rectangle.

Layer this with the pieced rectangle, right sides together.

Draw and then stitch on a 45-degree angle, from corner to side, and side to corner.

Cut between stitching lines, press open large triangle, yielding two blocks.

(Unit using above measurements should be 3.5" x 3.5" and will be "3" x 3" finished".

If necessary, trim, truing to 3-1/2” x 3-1/2" square.)

Deb promotes her TUCKER TRIMMER ruler, which I know some of you have.

This can be done with any ruler marked with a 45-degree line, like my Quilters Select ruler in the photo.
