In addition to Moda's BELLA SOLIDS, now made with 100% Grown in the USA cotton, we also carry AMERICAN MADE BRAND 100% cotton solids, as well as KONA COTTON from Robert Kaufman, and SOLID COTTON from Oasis, plus more. So, bottom line, we have a lot of SOLID COLOR COTTONS in the store. |

Not all SOLID COLOR COTTONS are the same. What you most likely notice is how heavy or thin the solid color fabric looks and/or feels. People talk about "thread count". This can be tricky, as the count is only a number, and doesn't account for how thick or thin, rough or fine, the threads are that are being counted. Good quilting fabric has a thread count that is at least 60 threads per inch in both directions. Fabrics with a higher thread count often feels finer & smoother because they've used more, finer threads for weaving. Even though they may "feel" thinner, these fabrics will likely last longer. Some thin fabrics are weak and some thin fabric are strong all due to the quality of the thread used in the weaving. Fabric designs printed on higher thread count fabric is finer and more detailed. Have you felt Kaffe Fassett's lately? Quite fine. |

So I go back to "how does it feel?" And "what does it look like?" When you check out my LOST BUTTON block above, notice I have pressed all the seam allowances towards the darker fabric. You can still see some of the seam allowances behind the light button. Where the block overlaps my paper notebook in the top part of the photo, you don't see them. White batting will have the same affect in the finished quilt. |

There is no single "perfect white". We have many to choose from. Just one more reason to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL QUILT SHOP(s). You'll always need a place to go to touch and feel and audition your fabric! Don't get me wrong, we LOVE our mail order customers. If you don't have somewhere local to audition whites, the next best may be to order 1/2 yards of each from us, then you have some, can keep a swatch, clearly labeled, and know what to buy the next time.
