Hi all!

I know you are all getting a lot done, staying in your air-conditioned sewing rooms, right?!  Oh my gosh!  This heat has got to break soon!

I actually have been sewing like crazy trying to meet a deadline for the upcoming PATCHWORK PARTY 2006!

Fluffy has been helping.  She tries to be good.  I told her to "stay off"! :)  Anyway, this is really going to be neat, so stay tuned . . .

Fabric, particularly WINTER fabrics, continue to arrive by the box-load.  So come on in for some inspiration and to get cool (stuff, that is!).

Moda - Snow Days - Snowmen on Blue

Moda - Snow Days - Dress-Up Snowmen Panel

Just arrived, SNOW DAYS is BRIGHT & FUN!  Lots of coordinates!  Plus this fun PAPER DOLL-like PANEL, where you can build your own snow-people!  Wow!  The ideas are coming fast and furious!  :)  See them all here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=snow+days

If you like this look, you may be interested in Mary's SNOW MAN BLOCK OF THE MONTH.  It started in January, but you could still join and we'd discuss how you might "catch up".  See it here:

Charlotte’s Unique Thangles - Buck-A-Block - June 06Interested in a simple BLOCK OF THE MONTH?  Check out our THANGLES BUCK-A-BLOCK program.  Three colors to choose from.  There has been some confusion.  You must re-order each month, unless you ORDER ALL 3 COLORS.  If you order all 3 colors, we'll send them automatically.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=9727

If you only want 1 COLOR, we ask that you visit the web site once each month to pace the order.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=9726

SPECIAL OFFER - Combine with any other item, each month, and get a kit for ONLY $1. When you order any other product and use coupon code 1BAB when you check out $2 will be deducted from your order. If there is not another item on the order, you will be charged $3.

Also, for a limited time, take advantage of this SPECIAL OFFER on my exclusive CHARM QUILT KITS.  These kits are my own design and only available from Charlotte's Sew Natural.  For a limited time, buy any one of my CHARM QUILT KITS and get the COUNTRY PATHS (second from right) for HALF-PRICE.  Use coupon code "1/2 Country Path" when you check out and you'll see the savings on your invoice.  But even if you forget to use the coupon, we'll give you the savings before we process your credit card.
We process your card by hand when we're ready to package and mail your order.

Friday June 2, 2006

Hi All!

Happy June!  This is a great month!  We have so many things happening in the store to get excited about!

There's still a little time to sign up for tomorrow's
(Saturday June 3rd)
PHOTO PLAY CLASS with Janet Bates.
Cost is $35 and starts at 10 a.m., ending about 3 p.m.

Call the store at 316-284-2547 and we'll get you registered and give you the supply list.

This is also the month that lots of new patterns and books start arriving.  Quilt Market was the end of May, and designers often introduce their latest and greatest.

This month we're using one of Lori Smith's BRAND NEW
Fat Quarter Quilting patterns - SIMPLY CHARMING with Thimbleberries fabrics in my Other Quilt Club.
I have made the little 4-patch quilt and it turned out great!  (See below for link to close-up picture).
I did have to use one of JO MORTON's plaids for the setting triangles, but Jo's fabrics blend great with the Thimbleberries!

See this SIMPLY CHARMING new pattern here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=9352

Most of Lori's patterns can be seen here in the SMALL QUILTS & TABLE RUNNERS pattern department:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=92

Find JO MORTON'S fabrics in the ANDOVER FABRIC department in the web store:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=94

Be sure to at least peak into our WHAT'S NEW department:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?c=58&p=17

Brett (seen here doing the monumental job of re-arranging the batik shelves so that the fabrics are in numerical order) has been very busy scanning, editing and uploading all the BASIC HAND-DYED fabrics from HOFFMAN.  These are primarily style numbers 1895 and A100.  We try to keep a good stock on hand at all times.  As always, you can order yardage or fat quarters.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?c=58&p=17

Have you ever used the web store's DESIGN BOARD feature?  Notice the link ADD TO DESIGN BOARD that is just below the name of every item in the store.

The DESIGN BOARD is a great tool for "playing" with the fabrics you might be considering for a project, just like you might do on our cutting table here in the store.  Or use it to keep a visual reminder of what you want to add to your shopping cart (which can always be saved as a "WISH LIST" if you want to come back to it later.  The DESIGN BOARD has a wonderful feature for easily adding any of the items on your design board to the shopping cart.  Give it a try with some of our BATIKS.

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=60

If you are getting this newsletter in HTML, this is an example of what the 1st step of the design board looks like with 4 batiks on it.  When you click on any of the thumbnails, they are enlarged and placed on the screen and can be moved around, so you can change their relationships to each other.  Pretty slick.  If you have ELECTRIC QUILT (& if you don't, we'll be happy to sell it to you) or one of the other quilt design programs, you can even import these images into your fabric library and use them in quilt designs.

Happy June, but are you starting to think CHRISTMAS yet?  :)

If you worked on last year's CLASSIC SANTAS and 6" PIECED blocks blocks-a-month series, check out our FINISHING KIT.

If you missed our program last year, we do have a few complete kits, including all the pieced and appliqué patterns and fabrics in one package.
Just finishing up?  There is an option to order just the border kit and pattern.
See them all here:

Speaking of Christmas, we have another wonderful CHRISTMAS QUILT kit available now.

I BELIEVE, designed by Pat Sloan, includes all sorts of whimsical holiday images to be appliquéd on a scrappy pieced background.

To simplify your life and save you time, we've pulled together all the SCRAPS you will need and even include a color guide for placement of each fabric in the quilt!
See it here and be sure to look at the close-up image showing the variety of fabrics and quilting!

Common Threads 2006

Please include us in your itinerary if you are planning on visiting the quilt show in downtown Wichita June 23 - 25 at Century II.

We are open Thursday from 9:30 - 8 p.m., Friday until 5:30 and Saturday until 5 p.m.  We will have lots of fun things happening in the store, including MT REDOUBT's newest QUILTS & PATTERNS - using some of our FABULOUS BATIKS!  Come see us! :)

Newton is just 25 miles north of the quilt show on I-135.  Click on the MAP link on any of my web pages for a good map of downtown Newton.  Click on this link for more details on the QUILT SHOW:

Last weekend we were in Eureka Springs Arkansas and had a great time with friends and family.  Highlight - kayaking!  Randy and I are now in the market for our own "double" kayak!  (You can tell the weather has been great here, so far!)

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

May 8, 2006

Hi All!

Oh my, where does the time go!  I think I missed an entire month of keeping in touch!

My only excuse is "I've been busy"!

What could be more important than keeping in touch with all my good friends and customers you might ask?  Two part answer -  lots of you have been in Newton recently, keeping us very busy on the sales floor and that is very good.  Lots of new product has been arriving in the store and that is good too!  We re-arranged much of the store, and BATIKS & HAND-DYES are now filling all of the shelves and tables on the south front end of the 710 side of the store.

We've also been re-arranging the 708 side of the store, where our FASHION FABRICS are located.  Which brings me to the second part of the two part answer - PROM!  Yes, April was "prom month", and as some of you may remember, my 17 year-old daughter Lily attended Quilt Market with me last fall and found the "perfect" fabric for her unique prom dress.  It is a beautiful ORANGE STRETCH SATIN.  There is a matching OMBRÉ NYLON ORGANZA.  She imagined a pleated flounce and lots of rhinestones and of course, I had to make that happen.  :)  With help from my sister Eleanor, in NYC, a pattern was made and custom fit to Lily, a pleater was found for the organza, and the perfect rhinestones were purchased!  And any spare time I had in April was spent working on the dress.  It was worth it!  Lily contributed by ironing on all of the rhinestones - a scary job!
She looked and felt beautiful and was confident that her dress was unique!

We carry the STRETCH SATIN in 3 colors, ORANGE, BLUE PERIWINKLE & BLACK.  The OMBRÉ ORGANZA comes in matching colors: orange to yellow, blue to green and gold to black.  The gold to black is CRINKLED and the colors are not.  Flat fabric can be "heat-set" pleated.  I used a professional in NYC and would be happy to share that source.

Use this link for the STRETCH SATIN & OMBRE ORGANZA:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?s=Lgtx-Satin

BTW - SILK ORGANZA makes the perfect PRESS CLOTH!  It is sheer enough to see through, and will scorch before other fabrics.  The nylon organza and the polyester stretch satin are both very heat sensitive and require a press cloth.  We carry SILK ORGANZA in 3 colors (mainly to use as underlining) and recommend the white for press cloths.  Use this link to order:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=8367

And now I'm trying to play "catch-up".  In December we finished the 2005 blocks-a-month FOLK ART appliqué and pieced blocks.  Several of you have asked about finishing kits.  There is a pattern which uses all 24 of the 12" pieced and appliqué blocks, and has an appliquéd inner border which is really stunning.  The setting pattern and the inner border appliqué patterns are sold separately.  If you want us to suggest fabrics, please send us an email, including the color-way in which your blocks are done.

Use this link for details on the pattern:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=8387

MOTHER'S DAY is coming up fast!  If you don't have the perfect gift for the "mother" in your life, (might that be you?) check out these great hand-bags!  I carry one and get soooooo many comments on it!  I don't think 45 rpm records are THAT unusual but they sure are a great conversation starter! :)  At the moment we have a great color selection, but our stock is limited!
Click here for the FUN 45 RPM VINYL HAND-BAGS:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?s=45rpm

I've just finished up my latest pattern using 5" charm squares.  This one uses both PRINTS & WOVENS from Moda's A DAY IN THE COUNTRY.  The colors are wonderful peaches & browns.  I used a great technique to get 8 Half Square Triangles from each pair of squares!  Check out my LADY OF THE LAKE SPENDS A DAY IN THE COUNTRY at this link:

Thank you for visiting Charlotte's Sew Natural, Celebrating our 21st Year in business!

April 5, 2006

Happy April everybody!

Bright floral fabric sure can raise our spirits, especially this time of year!  Keep an eye on our web store "What's New", for all the latest additions:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?c=58&p=17

Here in Kansas it is warm, some trees and bushes are getting leafy, a few flowers are starting to appear - so far, so good.  We've learned to stayed tuned to the weather reports and feel for those of you who have recently experienced the terrible storms and tornados.

This past Saturday threatened to be stormy here in central Kansas, but the day stayed beautiful and we had a wonderful "Second Annual Fool For Fabric Bus Tour" - with 4 busses visiting 4 stores each in just 10 hours!  April 1, 2007 will be on Sunday. Anyone interested in a Sunday bus tour?  Other suggestions?  Please stay tuned for announcement of next year's date.

Just a reminder - this Thursday evening at 7 p.m. CHARLOTTE'S OTHER QUILT CLUB - FEATURING THIMBLEBERRIES FABRICS will meet.  As usual we'll start shipping mail orders Thursday and those of you expecting packages might want to let us know if you need any of the following products included with the fat quarter bundles.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you have 1" THANGLES on hand for this month's 16" x 20" mini quilt, ODD FELLOW'S CHAIN.  The half-square triangles at the top and bottom of this quilt are 2", and 2" THANGLES would also be useful.  Unfamiliar with THANGLES?  Please see the TIPS section on my web site for a complete, illustrated explanation.

http://sewnatural.net/tips.htm

http://sewnatural.net/Thangles.htm

And while you're there, you may want to explore TIPS for QUICK FLYING GEESE.  There are many small flying geese units in this quilt too.  This will also be an excellent time to also order a QUICK QUARTER or QUICK QUARTER II if you don't already own one.  This inexpensive tool really makes marking squares with a 1/4" seam on either side of the center diagonal more accurate.

http://sewnatural.net/Tips-Flying-Geese.htm

QUICK QUARTER II:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=4791

This mini-quilt is only 16" x 20" when finished.  It is made up of lots of small units.  On Thursday evening I'll be demonstrating the value of the SPACE BOARD when it comes to PRESSING these units.  If you can't be here, you might want to check out this wonderful, portable press board.  It can't be beat for aid in accurate pressing:

Space Board - The Ultimate Pressing Board

Gingher 7

And while I'm talking about some of my FAVORITE NOTIONS, I should mention that I also use the 7" GINGHER SHEARS often!  For example, they are perfect for trimming many layers at once (like of "dog ears" off blocks) or cutting down the center of a block that has been stitched 1/4" on either side of center.  They are smaller and naturally lighter weight than the traditional 8" shears.  But being all metal, they are sharp and have the strength to cut accurately through many layers at once, unlike less expensive "lightweight" scissors.  Maybe someone needs a hint for Mother's day?

I seem to be doing lots of "small" projects lately.  Check out my "TRIP" small quilt made with RHUBARB & GINGER 5" square charm fabrics.  Details here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=7735

We unexpectedly have 2 OPENINGS in this SATURDAY'S CLASS -
PORTRAIT QUILTS FROM PHOTOGRAPHS.
The class starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m.  Cost is $35 or $30 each if you sign up with a friend.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=8052

LOTS OF NEW FABRIC has been delivered in the past couple of weeks, including the FREE SPIRIT pictured at the top of this email.  Kay is working hard to get more into the web store.  Or maybe we'll see you here in the Newton store soon!
